Report: Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown to go 'Dancing with the Stars'

By Christopher Rocchio, 05/31/2007

The dust hasn't even settled on Dancing with the Stars' fourth season, but celebrity contestants who will make up the cast for the Fall 2007 installment of the ABC reality competition series have apparently already begun to appear.

Former Spice Girls member Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown is slated to two-step on Dancing with the Stars upcoming fifth edition, the Irish Examiner reported Wednesday. The news comes only a few days after it was reported that Tori Spelling -- a former Beverly Hills 90210 actress and the current co-star of Oxygen's Tori & Dean: Inn Love reality show -- was in "discussions" with producers to appear on the show.

Brown is currently involved in a paternity battle with actor Eddie Murphy over eight-week-old daughter Angel, and while her spokesperson was discussing that issue with reporters, they apparently slipped and spilled the beans about her involvement with Dancing with the Stars, a U.S. adaptation of the U.K.'s Strictly Come Dancing.

"Eddie hasn't been in contact yet, but Mel's been busy with the US version of Strictly Come Dancing and her daughters," said the spokesperson, according to the Examiner.

Considering her status as a former pop star from the late 1990s, Brown could do well as a celebrity participant on Dancing with the Stars.

During the show's first season former New Kids on the Block singer Joey McIntyre finished third with professional partner Ashly DelGrosso. Then during the second season, former 98 Degrees singer Drew Lachey took home the mirror ball trophy with professional partner Cheryl Burke. While Dancing with the Stars' third season lacked a former pop star from the late 1990s, its recently concluded fourth edition saw former N Sync singer Joey Fatone finish second with his partner Kym Johnson.
