I sent Iams an email asking if any of their ingredients came from China. There was an element of evasion in their response. Here it is:

I am very sorry that we have not responded to your message in a timely manner. Normally, we would not take so long because it is not consistent with the level of service we want to give you. However, we have received as many contacts in the past few weeks as we receive in an entire year. Though we have significantly increased our staffing, we have not been able to give proper attention to all of our consumers. We appreciate your patience.



The pet food industry is competitive, so companies do not publicly share their recipes or ingredient sourcing information. Because of the recent issues on processed vegetable proteins, we have made an exception to this rule and shared with our consumers that Iams and Eukanuba products currently on retailers’ shelves are not formulated with any processed vegetable proteins (wheat gluten, corn gluten or rice concentrate protein). Our Tartar Treats product has wheat gluten that comes from non-China sources, and we have tested that supply to make sure it does not contain melamine.



Pets are an important part of all of our families. We share your concerns and are firmly committed to you and the health of your pet. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We value your trust and confidence during this extremely difficult time.
