Considering that my initial post discussed stoning of women in other cultures I'd have to say that in 2007 the United States is very dissimilar to say the culture in the middle east.

To me that seems like a values/moral belief issue. I guess part of the reason I see it that way is because I'm not about to exonerate men for abandoning their children and responsibilities because they suffer from some "biological problem." Leaving your wife and child high and dry is a conscious decision to me....and a very bad one
