"CEO jobs are too few to effect the averages much even though they pay so high."

Disagree.

"Average total compensation has been on a trend of increasing for some time. There are short term movements against that trend, but the overall trend goes back for decades, pretty much since we moved out of the depression, or at least since WWII."

Median would give a more accurate picture of what we are talking about. You are just determined to come up with some measure that supports you bias.

" Housing affordability and home ownership rate are two different things.

Sure they are two different things, but if home ownership is increasing then the middle class isn't getting priced out of it."

That is very simplistic reasoning. And it in fact says nothing about housing affordability which has in fact been going down for the entire Bush administration. It takes two incomes now to buy a house in most cities when it took only one income a generation ago and you say the average American is doing better. That is just plain untrue. But righties will always pull some obscure statistic out of their statistical soup that supports their fairy tale and ignore all the other statistics that show that their fairy tale version is untrue.

"That's just flat out false."

You should look at the statistics before you let your gut reactions speak. The sad thing about this issue is that there are varieties of ways of looking at the numbers AND compiling the numbers so there is no way of definitively saying one way or the other without agreeing upon methodology in the first place.
