The following item reminded me why I used to play options (puts and calls). I have gotten away from them these last few years but they were great fun and challenging. My best was an Inco call option at $ 0.05 that became $ 1.45 in a flash when they blew out the whisper numbers on earnings.

In this period of mining buyouts and record earnings , it may be worth considering the options game again.
The following URL is where you would get quotes and trading symbols for Canadian options. Try AUR for example.

From Investors Digest June 1.

One way to to make serious money during merger and acquisition mania is to follow the trading patterns in stock options.

They can generate signals that enable investors to spot and and take leveraged positions in takeovers before they are announced.

Consider, for example, recent movements in call options on the stock of Alcan Inc.

Volumes jumped in the week leading up to the May 7 takeover bid from Alcoa, providing a hint that something could be in the works. When the announcement did come, the option contract shot up from $ 0.25 to $ 15.50 - a 60 fold gain that turned $ 15,000 into nearly $ 1 million.

In the US.,several advisory services track option trading. They include: flyonthewall.com, InsideOptions.com, Insiderscore.com and TradeAlert.com.
