Almost all of the cases I saw with hospice were terminal cancer cases. Actually we generally were the ones calling in hospice for an initial evaluation. The patients were generally barely conscious and did not appear in much pain. Hospice generally had its own ward and its own doctor who wrote the orders on all the hospice patients. I doubt if any of the patients I saw even lived as much as a week.

I wasn't aware of any private physicians managing their cases under the auspices of hospice.

Actually hospice is not an organization but rather a service provided by a specific organization. I remember two or three different ones. They were all excellent IMO.
