Someone said recently that the war in Iraq is the cheapest that the US has conducted for a century, as a percentage of GNP. I don't know if that's true, but I do believe that the average American is not yet aware of being affected economically by the war. Casualty levels are also very low, by comparison with WW2 or Vietnam. This why there is no significant popular anti-war movement in the US.
