Come on Hawk, when you reduce the burning of fossil fuel to generate electricity and maybe introduce few electrical vehicles, that will take the pressure off.

Wow!! So now you're saying Ahmadinejad's plan is to provide a technology to the Iranian people that we don't even have widely available in the US?

Who's going to pay for the upgrade to Iran's electrical grid so all of those cars can be plugged in?

Really now.. this is just ridiculous.

As was previously mentioned, Ahmadinejad has done literally NOTHING to increase the production of refined petroleum products in Iran, DESPITE the fact that such technology is FAR LESS sophisticated (or dangerous) than nuclear power.

But let's return to the issue at hand... I CAN UNDERSTAND why Iran desires Nuclear power for electricity generation. After all, it frees up other sources of fuel for export, or internal consumption.

But let's be real about this.. if they were ONLY pursuing peaceful production, then WHY HIDE that fact for 18 years?

Why not just come out and say that, not only are we contracting with the Russians to build a nuclear reactor, but we're building our own enrichment facilities. Under the NPT, they HAVE that right to do so, under the terms of the NPT and subject to inspection.

This is the same problem we saw with N. Korea, and the next thing we know, they're attempting to detonate nuclear weapons underground, albeit with limited success).
