Enjoy the Rushmore trip. We decided we needed to make that a part of a 2+ week trip so we aren't rushed & we can see a good chunk of Wyoming & Montana too. Good idea. I've never done it, but hear that the drive from Cody, WY to Yellowstone is absolutely spectacular. The whole Upper Peninsula is beautiful. Painted Rocks is exceptionally beautiful. I suggest you add it to your list of places to see sometime. I grew up in SE Michigan and had and still have relatives in the UP. I used to visit every summer. Been there, but not for a long time. Tahquamenon falls is also quite spectacular.
