My friends disagree with me and together we find sensible solutions to our disagreements, which are often improvements over the positions either of us began with. When the goal is a solution that serves the best interests of all, no one need be identified as an enemy; except maybe those disruptive individuals who are prone to blocking sensible solutions for selfish reasons of their own. The political process and system of representation in America was designed to find and implement solutions that are in the best interests of all Americans. Who or what is the enemy in the midst of that?

"What if they disagree. Which is more important?"

(National strategic interests and National principled interests) That is the worst Sophie's choice. If we allow one to be sacrificed for the other, America will ultimately decay into a non-functioning and irreparably discordant lost cause.

"That may sound good but it will never happen. This country was founded on the principle of division of power, so that concentration of power would be harder to come by. As such conflict is built in to our system."

Conflict is built in to the human condition from deciding which color of socks go best with your outfit to struggling over more complex questions that require wisdom of experience and collaboration from varying view points. This is a good thing, not something within which we necessarily need to identify a manungous among us.
