absolutely the best shopping is the perimeter of the store....i spend most of my time in the fresh produce dept.....breeze through almost the entire store (some aisles i don't even bother with) then spend some time in the fresh meats/seafood/chicken....after that some dairy....

i've had more than one store checker say....'wow, you really eat healthy, don't you!'

sad to say, it is definitely more expensive to buy fresh and cook your own...(can you imagine, the $ menu at mc d's???) and vegetables are getting more and more expensive.....thank goodness for costco....i go there about once monthly and buy a huge bag of spinach, red peppers, romaine, mushrooms, english cucumbers, avocados, and whatever else strikes my fancy....their xtra virgin olive oil is a BUY and so is the balsamic vinegar...starbucks french roast is a good buy as well....as you can imagine i spend a LOT of money at costco....but i buy quality..meaning buying foods in it's simplest form and in quantity

one of the best things you can do is to avoid any added sugar in your diet, and that pretty much eliminates anything 'packaged'

which reminds me, btw...

i found a website called 'netrition.com' that has really good prices on low carb products ....this is one of my favorites

netrition.com

their prices are much better than my local health food store ....for example the almond flour is less than half of the price they charge locally

i recently ordered a low carb pasta that has rave reviews, i'll let you know what i think when i get them

netrition.com
