I suspect the word 'deutsch' exists in some form in the language of Holland, after all, Dutch is a Germanic language.

As a teacher you shouldn't believe (belongs in the Church) or suspect (in the PD, please) but know or at least look up prior to opening your mouth.

Dutch historically is a West German dialect! Deutsch - doitsu in Japanese by the way - in Scandinavia is Tysk and given the history of the languages it seems quite understandable that the Anglo Saxon heritage in the British language didn´t really distinguish between Deutsch and Dutch. Used to be the same thing and the dialect spoken just next door so to say was the German spoken closest to them anyway.
