I can't believe that someone comes back from their first trip to Europe and all they can do is complain about the public washrooms, inferior hotels, small cars, narrow streets and grocery stores.

Yes, that's true.....unfortunately, that's a pretty common reaction by many Americans. I think Ten like many Americans get homesick and when you get homesick, everything doesn't look so great. Part of the problem is that as Americans, we are not used to not knowing the language and therefore not feeling like we are in control. One of my worst times in Europe is when I went with two American friends. These guys were smart, strong people but when they got to Europe they fell apart like they were made of straw. I ended up having to hold their hands all through the trip. It was a real drag.
