Microsoft announces ForeFront management
By Eric Ogren on Tue, 06/05/2007 - 9:05am
Microsoft announced a roadmap for their Forefront security management product today. Early test units will be available in the second half of 2007 leading to a general product release in 2009. No doubt the specific features of ForeFront management will be worth tracking through the test cycles as it evolves.

Interesting is Microsoft's vision of integrating endpoint, server and network edge security into a single management platform where Microsoft security can interoperate with solutions from other vendors. Microsoft recognized that ForeFront products with separate policy interfaces, management consoles, and reporting mechanisms can create security gaps and administrative headaches for IT.

This focus on enterprise security management is nice to see from Microsoft. Security requires visibility and coordination between security products, applications, and communications infrastructures. Bridging the network edge, endpoints and servers is fundamental to securing modern businesses. This is where further ForeFront integration with Network Access Protection and interoperability with the communications infrastructure via Trusted Computing Group protocols can be compelling, and both should be essential parts in the Forefront story.
