Meaning what, exactly?

The same thing as when I'm supposed to put myself in the shoes of an African-American when it comes to the Confederate Flag.

I still don't get your point.

The confederate flag is a symbol of Southern states trying to maintain their legal enslavement of black people. It is therefore offensive to today's black people. He's saying you should look at the confederate flag from the shoes of America's blacks and see how defending it is offensive to them. That's pretty easy to understand.

Now, if the rest of us try to look at things from the shoes of a Korean American (your recommendation), what exactly are we supposed to see that we don't see from our current shoes?

In other words, what are you trying to say?
