The current administration has caused a lot of harm with this parental style of supervision. They seem to think that the American people are incapable of rational thought so they think for us. The amount of bureaucracy and waste the Bush administration has created will take a long time to recover from. But the worst thing in my opinion is the fear mongering. They are nothing more than big government propagandists who keep their subjects in line by filling our minds with fear and worry.
