If Walmart didn't have competition, they would raise prices. Just like every other retailer, they are trying to maximize gross profit per square foot and per employee. To single them out as helping keep prices down" is deceptive.

On headline items they can be lower (though they got walloped this past Christmas); on blind items they can be higher, much higher. In those situations are they keeping prices higher?

Don't buy their smiley face marketing... they are as or more greedy than any other retailer.
