1) 49% of Republicans said they would consider voting 'third party' if it looked like the G.O.P. nominee couldn't win.

2) Well over 1/3 of Dems. said the same thing about voting third party if it looked like their nominee was a loser.


So if the Democrats look like they will definitly lose 1/3rd of one party "will consider" voting for a third party, and if the Republicans look like they will definitly lose about 1/2 of one party will "consider".

Pretty thin gruel to try to feed a campaign on. At most only one party will look like certain losers. So you get (at most) half of one party "considering" voting for a third party. The majority of people who so "consider" would probably decide against it, unless they thought that the third party candidate was a pretty good match for their views.
