I'm glad you didn't think I was being intentionally mean, just stirring it up of course. Intellectually, we all know what the ideal situation would be in terms of mass transit and personal vehicles. But putting it into practice is another thing. I have additional excuses for owning an SUV, for one, when we bought it there was no way anything but a 4x4 with high clearance could climb up my folks' cabin driveway in the winter. And it was a long haul with a baby and little one getting our gear into the cabin. Sometimes even the SUV couldn't do it, a lot of work just so the kids could play in the snow. But the cabin was sold into the hot real estate market, and now I have an SUV which, for sure, is not the ideal suburban mom vehicle.
