The immigration bill as written is so hated because the far right apparently got tired of of the left wing havin' a monopoly on hatin'. Perhaps they missed the good ol' days of hatin' on Slick. Whatever. But I seriously doubt more than a small minority of the far right has bothered to even read the bill, never mind giving it a moment's serious thought. Hell, there were even major political figures who announced their opposition to the bill before a single word of it was written. Most of the public are caught up in a mob mentality, egged on by the likes of Ann "it's an anti-WASP genocide" Coulter, talk radio morons and other vitriol-spewing, xenophobic blowhards. And many pols are simply afraid of the angry mob and aren't cut out to actually lead.

BTW, illegal immigrants don't vote and I doubt great numbers of legal ones want more illegal ones freely flooding in. But who knows? Do you have any polling evidence that a substantial portion of legal Hispanic immigrants want open borders?
