Bush's tax cuts were also a bait and switch move, though admittedly they were the one campaign promise he kept. He just didn't tell us the details. According to the book "Perfectly Legal" by a GOP tax expert, the fine print in Bush's tax code means that unless you're making over $500,000 per year you get screwed. If you're making over $200,000 you get only mildly screwed. If you're making $75,000 a year you get royally screwed. Also, the new loopholes for hugely rich CEO types are disgraceful, and the fact Bush fired half the IRS's lawyers who go after rich tax cheats is telling. Tax evasion has never been higher than it is now.

Nobody likes taxes, but in the days of real conservatism, paying taxes was considered a patriotic duty. During WWII everyone paid as much as possible then bought war bonds on top of it. Even during Vietnam that was true. But Bush seems to think the rich can have anything they want and we can stay at permanent war with non-enemies, and we can also have tax cuts and not bankrupt the nation. False. In fact the recent USA Today frontpage article proved that Bush's deficits are 500% higher than he's admitted, and when the 7-8 trillion dollar tab for GW Bush comes in, those making under $200,000 per year will receive the brunt of it. The rich and big corps will get off easy, once again.
