The Fed only directly controls overnight Fed funds rate. I
don't think the fate of the dollar is up to the Fed and
minions, but they sure can cause ST fluctuations. If the
foreign CBs have started leaving the dollar ship, it will
sink soon no matter what. Big if. You've just seen what
can happen when they sell just a few billion dollars. They
did it, this week. Bonds still have not recovered from
the hit, even though I'm sure all king's horses and all
king's men were consulting with the Fed and the treasury
earlier this week. Foreign CBs have trillions. -g-
I'd guess it was Japan who sold some, since they to have
a rough peg in, and Yen is not normally allowed to
be above (cheaper than) 120Y/$
