Well some believe in States rights. Others want to make some other form of statement, or fit in with a certain sub culture. Your certainly right that just about no one flying the confederate flag is doing so to signal that they support slavery. How do you know that? And even if they are not, how do you know that they are not calling for separation of the races or a Christian only country? It seems you make every effort to minimize the differences between conservatives and liberals, north and south but in the end they exist and its better to acknowledge them then to ignore them IMO.
