Re: "Any idea how they plan to rejigger it to be more acceptable?"

No idea about what other changes might ensue....

But word (from the Sunday talk shows) suggested a renewed push from Bush over coming weeks... and Sen. Reid intimated that if the Republicans could agree among themselves as too *how many* amendments they will introduce (no 'open-ended', or 'endless' amendments... but an agreed-to solid number), that he would be likely to put the bill back before the Senate by July fourth.

(So, Bush and Kyl and McConnell have some 'wrangling' to do....)

Big Business interests are also likely to push to try to force the Dems to remove one of the amendments that they got passed --- the amendment to sunset the guest worker program with a five year sunset deadline --- a requirement that the new program be looked at again, to see if it is working properly, and then voted on anew... up or down.

So --- looks like a lot of pressure from the WH and Chamber of Commerce / Wall Street types on Republicans they are aligned with... and big push by business interests (who favor more immigration) on the Dems to remove the labor-supported amendment about sunsetting the guest worker program.
