A decade ago, a Dr Saven, who treated our son for lymphoma, said that there were some really nasty tuberculosis infections around and he was very concerned about them.

I suppose they have got even worse now.

Humans don't yet seem to escaped the ravages of the microbial world, though it's a lot less lethal than it was as we have better defences, in part due to better understanding.

But from a propagation point of view, compared with 100 years ago, humans move everywhere really fast, so the whole world could be infected in a very short time.

So far, H5N1 is a wimp. Still no serious threat and here comes the northern winter again with no humanized form ready to go. So probably no big deal until Xmas 2009 at the earliest.
