I think there should be research done on how we discount lying. I know most people discount 'white lies' and that most excuse lieing under duress. I suspect we do other things.

Girls and guys know they are being lied to sometimes but seem to allow some of it when there's an association with charm or a charismatic personality. At least it seems that way to me. Research in this area would be interesting.
