AR Telecom, Broadnet, eircom, Edutel, Lannet Communications and Netia Use Acme Packet Session Border Controllers for Critical Control at Access and Interconnect Borders

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced six new customers across Europe. From Ireland to Poland to Greece, a wide range of service providers are relying on Acme Packet's Net-Net® session border controllers (SBCs) to control the delivery of trusted, first-class IP communications to their customers. With these six customers, Acme Packet SBCs are now deployed by service providers in 32 European countries.

These new customers have deployed Acme Packet's Net-Net SBCs at broadband access borders to support residential and business services and at service provider core borders to enable IP interconnects and peering. In addition, these service providers are addressing security issues within their networks by utilizing Acme Packet's Net-SAFE® architecture, which protects customer networks and session privacy, and provides topology hiding and denial of service (DoS/DDoS) protection from malicious attacks and non-malicious overloads.

Acme Packet's new customers include incumbent and competitive operators from six different countries:

* eircom, Ireland's incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC), delivers business PBX VoIP trunking and business VoIP services with Acme Packet. eircom is the principal provider of fixed-line telecommunications services in Ireland with approximately 2.2 million fixed-line telephone access channels in service.
* Edutel, a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) and Internet service provider (ISP) in the Netherlands, uses Acme Packet to securely interconnect to domestic and international service providers and offer hosted VoIP services to residential and business customers.
* Netia, a CLEC based in Poland and the largest alternative fixed-line telecom operator in the country, is leveraging Acme Packet's SBCs to deliver residential IP telephony and IP PBX trunking and IP Centrex to business customers.
* Broadnet, a German CLEC/ISP, uses Acme Packet in its delivery of IP Centrex for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
* Lannet Communications, which serves its customers through a privately owned nationwide network in Greece, offers a range of residential and SME VoIP services with Acme Packet.
* AR Telecom, an independent telecommunications company in Portugal, leverages Acme Packet to securely interconnect with other service providers and offer hosted VoIP services for residential and business subscribers.

"Acme Packet enables precise control and secures our network, which delivers our new VoIP services to our customers throughout Ireland," explained John Senior, head of application strategy and prototyping at eircom. "Acme Packet's SBCs are also interoperable with devices we already employ, which enabled a smooth deployment and streamlined operation, speeding time to market and saving us money."

Acme Packet Net-Net SBCs combine purpose-built hardware with session border control features that together deliver carrier-class scalability, performance and reliability. Supporting multiple protocols and multiple applications, the Net-Net SBCs provide critical control functions at both access and interconnect borders, satisfying requirements in five major areas: security, service reach maximization, SLA assurance, revenue and profit protection and regulatory compliance. The Net-SAFE security features, including access control lists, call rate limiting and topology hiding, help ensure that IP networks are secure and available to provide IP interactive communication services.

Acme Packet's new customer wins come during a time of increased VoIP adoption in Europe. In its May 2007 report, Infonetics Research reports that residential wireline subscribers in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) will grow from 13.4 million in 2006 to 51.3 million in 2010, and the amount of money spent on service provider VoIP equipment in EMEA will increase from $1.1 billion in 2006 to $2.1 billion in 2010.

"Premium quality and secure voice services will become more important as customers become dependent on real-time interactive communication services delivered over IP networks," stated Stephane Teral, Infonetics Research analyst and principal author of the report. "For these services to exist, they must be able to traverse multiple networks securely and reliably."

"Acme Packet has been working with service providers in Europe for a number of years, and this latest announcement is a testament to the strong relationships we continue to establish there. Today, an increasingly diverse group of service providers, both large and small, are putting their confidence in Acme Packet," explained Andy Ory, president and CEO of Acme Packet. "These companies have recognized that by maximizing their service reach and delivering an exceptional quality of service, new and increased revenue opportunities are possible."
