What does our constitutionally protected design of government, which counter-balances governmental powers between Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches... have to do with 'two political parties'?

(I can assure you... that latter is not even mentioned in the constitution. :-)

I see NO 'connection'. (Thus, no point.)

Now, as to '1854', (and after)... pretty sure you are begging the question, (not to mention leaving out the existence and active electoral participation, particularly in the younger years, of several other parties).
