Bill,

If the Y2K problem is so overwhelming, why haven't we seen any evidence of it NOW? Just exactly what is so magical about 1/1/2000 as a "deadline".

You know as well as anyone... every shop on the face of the globe has snafus of varying severity on a somewhat regular basis. Dealing with curves out of the left field lights is one of the excitments that draws us to the field.

Under NORMAL conditions these hiccups get fixed by burning the midnight oil & creative work-arounds. What makes Y2K such a big deal then is that so many shops will be hit with so many SIMULTANEOUS problems in a very short time window (end of '98 onwards).

Shops are already encountering Y2K snafus and dealing with them as best they can. They're conditioned to keep such snafus out of the public limelight. No one's going to step forward & say: "We ran this job for six months before we discovered it was wrong."

BTW... what did you think of that speach from the NY Fed President? Think he's been duped?

David
