I saw an interesting story yesterday about kids and germs- THe Hygiene Hypothesis. I have always held that my kids were extremely healthy because I was such a bad housekeeper. While I did this merely to rationalize my dirty house, it seems I may have been right.
Exposure to everyday dirt and germs builds up immunities through the early years. Owning a stinky, hairy dog is a good thing. Overprotection can actually stunt the development of the immune system.

I feel so exonerated.
