I have thought for a couple years that the only thing keeping the cat in the bag (i.e. stopping a civil backlash) is easy credit. When that avenue for keeping up appearances comes to an end, and it is in the slow process of disappearing right now, then the reality of the damage to the buying power of the bottom 60% or so will become plainly and painfully apparent.

Whether that leads to anything is anybody's guess. When Kent State occurred, there weren't any 50" Plasma screens out there. Faux News was only a concept understood by George Orwell, and for the most part, the gov't was still elected by people rather than soulless corporations. But I still expect similar sorts of unrest to occur.
