No one is saying that it puts Russia in danger but it is threatening to Russia in a psychological sense.

If it doesn't put Russia in danger, then them feeling threatened is irrational.


Just like Bush and his fellow Americans who were worried that Saddam might nuke the US. Please......don't talk to me of irrational fear. I've seen six years of it in these disunited states.

That doesn't mean it shouldn't be considered. You have to deal with irrational ideas as well, they do impact the world and you can't just ignore them. OTOH I'm somewhat less willing to bend over backwards to accommodate irrational ideas. You can "hand hold", even accept a bit of delay, but you shouldn't leave the country defenseless against a growing threat if it can be helped.

Russia is an important country. They have a great deal of oil. They control the nat. gas pipeline going into Europe. Its in everyone's best interest to do a little hand holding.
