Good to see you, AJ... Hi!

Why should the average citizen pay for some civil servant to have their own special health coverage in retirement when most private sector employees only have medicare?

Good point. Another redundancy is the VA health care system. Most Vets over 65 have Medicare, and often still go to the VA - to get free medications. Would be about 50 times cheaper just to offer the vets prescription benefits.

The important potential problem is that in case of an economic slowdown, or severe inflation, etc. public employees would be in a very privileged situation. They would keep their jobs, get various cost of living adjustments, etc. They could become the pathway - the first recipients - for "unconventional" introduction of liquidity into the economy. This could be very dangerous and unhealthy.
