A plane carrying Cat Stevens was not allowed to land in the US. It landed in Newfoundland and forced Cat Stevens to leave the plane; then it went on to Boston. Cat Stevens is a singer who converted to Islam, not a known terrorist. Do you think that is a normal action in a democracy?
The action says nothing about democracy vs. lack of democracy.
In theory it could say something about freedom vs. having less freedom, but it seems it may have more to do with bureaucratic bungling. There is some indication that a person with the same name is a supporter of terrorism.
It has everything to do with democracy, and no, they did not make a mistake. He has not been able to come to the US.
Bush/Cheney insisted everything was fine and you agreed
Its a stretch to say that they insisted everything was fine, and a much bigger stretch to say that I agreed with such a statement. My point where and are more along the lines that Iraq can be won, not that everything is going fine.
At the point I am discussing, it was not an issue of whether the war could be won or not. It was that the war was going badly and getting worse. You argued that that was nonsense.
It doesn't help that are media is controlled by corporate America who has a vested interest in keeping anything negative about the gov't under the table.
Corporate America is not a monolithic block. To the extent corporate owned media has some vested interest, its in making higher profits, by attratcing my viewers/readers, not in supporting any one political party or administration.
The politics of the top people influence the politics of the corporation. Look no further that Rupert Murdoch.
More generally the media is more diverse than it used to be. You not only have the big newspapers, and TV stations, you have many more TV stations, you have blogs and other internet sites, you have talk radio, you have political magazines of every different persuasion. In the past the media was to a much greater extent dominated by a few voices. Now its a million competing voices.
Then why did I have to go to the British press to get the truth? |
