Navteq Expanding Traffic.com Infrastructure, Selects TransCore
Jun 4, 2007
GPS World
Navteq's Traffic.com Web site is adding additional roadside traffic sensors and consequently offering its traffic-data services in nine U.S. cities: Atlanta; Cincinnati; Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis; Las Vegas; Sacramento, Calif.; Salt Lake City; San Jose, Calif.; and Raleigh, NC.

It is contracting with transportation services company TransCore to install digital roadside traffic sensors along expressways in and around these metropolitan areas, as well as provide maintenance of Traffic.com's existing infrastructure in various cities across the United States, the companies said.

"TransCore's presence in more than 20 states with a national footprint of 60 field offices across the U.S. provides us with necessary local expertise and service as Traffic.com’s U.S. commuter services and coverage continues to expand," stated John Collins, Traffic.com’s vice president for ITS and telematics

The Traffic.com digital sensor network, which TransCore will build out in these nine markets, continuously collects accurate, real-time traffic data and transmits it wirelessly to Traffic.com’s proprietary traffic information management system, according to Navteq and Traffic.com. This data is combined with probe data and incident and event-related updates, which are then distributed across broadcast, Web and wireless platforms. This traffic information includes incident and accident reports, vehicle speeds, congestion levels, and travel and delay times.
