Quite a few people believe that particular communist myth: a bunch of people got together and tried to "implement a system" to better their lives, but as it turns out, the results weren't quite what they expected.

That's plain wrong. Communism was certainly supported by some based on ideals of "brotherhood" and "sharing". But a large part of it was also based on hatred. It gave people an excuse to hate people different than them. Lenin said in response to peasant farmers refusing to sell food to the state at subsistence prices

I thought you dealt in truths; that's what you told Al was your ideal. Well, the hatred and murder that they talk about up above had little to do with communism and more to do with the dictatorships that ruled Russia for nearly 70 years. A dicatorship like Saddam or Hitler. In dictatorships, there always has to be a fall guy........someone to hate and murder. It goes with the program. This twisting of the facts to suit the biases of the right is infuriating.

And before you get confused.......I am not defending Marx's communism. That's a whole different ball game from what when on in the Soviet Union. Right now, all I am discussing are the dictatorships that ruled the Soviet Union for far too long.
