Hyperion "considering" a $10 bn, 400,000 bbl refinery in South Dakota. Should be interesting. nytimes.com The refiners are just so damned interesting at this point. With ethanol and imported gasoline making inroads into gasoline supply, and thus threatening refiners' margins, it just doesn't make sense for anyone to plunk down billions upon billions into an American refinery even if the environmental and political landscape were favorable. I will be surprised if the Hyperion refinery is built. In the meantime, the existing refiners, especially the best of breed like VLO, will simply print money for the foreseeable future. This makes VLO a very juicy target for private equity funds and other rapscallions.
