Bill,

not one addresses the issue of the distinct lack of evidence for this problem,

What do you need for evidence? That 95% of software projects are delivered on-time, on-budget & with promised functionality?

Have you ever been on such a project? Have you EVER heard of someone who's been on such a project?

the fact that the vast majority of modern hardware and modern financial applications handle post millenial date calculations correctly.

What does that have to do with anything? Just because that software/hardware has the capability to deal with date calculations correctly that says NOTHING about whether or not people will use that functionality correctly.

Plus... the (software) foundations of most large companies are systems that may have been planned to have seven year lives and are now into their second or even third decade of usage. Retiring, replacing, and particularly understanding such systems is very difficult work.

Back to you, Chet....

David
