I started out saying I didn't mean to be either callous or cynical, and when I now reread what I wrote, I don't believe I was- most certainly I was not callous to this young man. (On the other hand, I know you already don't like me, and maybe wanted to take a little dig.)

I AM cynical about the show's obvious intent to show him as a cell phone salesman who walked in off the streets with a dream. That's just baloney, and it's demeaning to Mr Potts.

The articles haven't been based on facts about Paul Potts' real life, which may or may not have its own triumphs and failures (whose doesn't?) but about an imaginary life created to fulfill fantasies. Why should he have to rely on some pitiful portrayal of him as being rejected and disappointed with life, wishing someone would just let him SING, as if he just stepped out of the shower.

He has been singing all along, and quite well and successfully.

There is nothing pitiful about someone who has arrived at his level of vocal skill, and nothing callous about wanting him to get the credit he deserves for his hard work and study. You can't be a wimp in the opera world and you can't be a coward and let loose on a high B in front of thousands.

I willingly admit I don't know guns and war, but I do know the music world.
