The problem is they don't know when to stand firm on principle.

They are living up to this reputation quite well. It's amazing, but in the end, they'll end up shouldering a fair bit of the blame for iraq. First for giving the AH the power, then for failing to take it away. I really dislike the right's ideology on several points, but these guys are a collection of eunuchs.


What happened is that the polls told them Americans wanted the US out of Iraq but not at the expense of funding the troops. So when Bush played chicken with them over this issue they blinked. Very stupid. They are so afraid of being called anti troop and anti security, they gave into the incompetent.

While I fault them for their cowardice, there is more to it then just their weakness. We have a culture of unbridled militarism that encourages the kind of thinking that put them between a rock and a hard place. Otherwise, in a peace loving society, the Dems' position would have been a no brainer.
