As Joe Jackson sings," Everything causes cancer".......such will also be the case with potential of birth defects, and during pregnancy or post-partum breast feeding, you better watch what you give the mother as the fetus or child will get it too...........

<<It was reported today that the FDA is now investigating 3 cases of birth defects in children born to woman taking the combination of Fen-Phen. Of course nothing has been established in these cases but they are related and who really knows what the outcome will be.>>

Of course this is bad news, but certainly not for the companies. These drugs contain your typical pregnancy disclaimer in the PDR, " There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Pondimin/ Redux should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus." It would be difficult for a doctor to get up and defend his usage of these drugs, especially in conjunction with an amphetamine, to a woman during pregnancy. Pregnancy is a time where a woman must obtain proper nutrition, not looking to curb one's appetite, and if obesity risks are too great to mother and child, these concerns need to be addressed outside of the period of gestation.
If these correlation are found to have merit, the prescribing physicians don't have a snowball's chance in hell in a legal arena. Definitely, this is the first instance where the plaintiff's have a case.>>
