sat-net.com
is a very good source. It gives details on all the satellite systems. The guy running it is an Iridium fan because of their space switching = networks being his specialty. So most of the info is about Iridium. He also worked in constellation topology and he has got a neat coverage map for the various systems. Actually, Globalstar footprints are elliptical rather than circular, with the long axis aligned with the direction of travel to give longer times between handoffs to the next satellite. Go to "Overview" for the Globalstar section.

Thanks to Philip Merryman who finds so much material, here are some
photos of Globalstar satellites under production and testing at the Alenia production facility in Rome. They are great looking little satellites!

And here are some photos of the earth stations under construction.

From the Loral Stream. Estimates of numbers of subscribers, minutes of use, revenue, net profit etc. Because Globalstar Telecommunications Limited only owns 22% of Globalstar LP you need to adjust the projected net profit accordingly.

And a bit about the Iridium IPO. Iridium World represents about an
eight percent stake in Iridium LLC, a consortium including Motorola Inc (MOT), Sprint Corp (FON), Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT) and Raytheon Co (RTN).

That is a better and direct link to the article about Frontiers in
Space which discussed the various satellite schemes and how they can fit into corporate user plans.

And here is one for an article about Qualcomm getting a $600 million
contract for gateway production. Initial payment of $275 million for the first 3 or 4 has been made. These will be installed at: Aussaguel, France; Yeoju, South Korea; and Clifton, Texas. No mention of Dubbo, Australia, though it is nearing completion.

Incidentally, Iridium is the most dense element of all, and one of the most expensive. More dense than lead, gold and all those heavy metals. Now they have changed to Dysprosium, atomic number 66 because the initial 77 planned didn't work out right. But they didn't change the name.
