Yes, the bull market in gold started after the Fed slashed interest
rates. However, gold was moving down most of 2000.

silver. When the carry trade blows up, if ever, then gold
will skyrocket. The cause for the decline could be speculator
futures positions. The lease rates on gold are even lower
than Yen interest rates (they always have been - a way
of government control). It matters, in this market. There
are various cycles in gold market, just like in every other
market. It can go down for an extended period of time, even
within a secular bull market.
