One of the morning shows had an asinine segment. Americans are getting shorter. They quickly assured us that this wasn't due to the changing ethnic mix, as if that was self evident. Then they compared the average American man (but not woman) - 5'6" with the average Dutch and Norwegian man 6'1". But again this is NOT because we have a smaller relative population of Dutch and Norwegian people than we did in the past. No, it's because the Dutch and Norwegians have socialized medicine and Americans eat junk food. I'm sure it never crossed the producers' minds that the whole idiotic piece was premised on the prejudice that taller people are better people.
