I'm not sure the place we live looks like America.

I call my wife's family Hobits; every generation they get smaller -

Great Grandfather - 6'4"
Grandfather - 6'
Father - 5'10"
Brother - 5'6"

I'm about the same height as my father - 5' 10" but my brother's 6'. All my male cousins are well over 6'.
