People seem to vote for politicians that waste money if some of it is earmarked for thier district. It is a sign of stupidity to put those who waste money into "responsible" positions. Then Republicans elected the chief spendthrift President. I blame 2006 on President Bush. If he had wielded his veto more than once is six years, like for instance every time he threatened to veto an excessive spending bill, voters would not now think (accurately) that Republicans are just as wasteful as democrats.
