Zeus,

I'm not sure where all your anger and hate is coming from.

I said nothing in defense of the Catholic Church on this issue other than:

1. The Church has some very complex recruitment issues to deal with that make it more likely that some priests will engage in sex with teenaged boys or even worse, little boys.

2. These kinds of scandals are not unique to the Catholic church. There are sex abusers everywhere in society and in every religion.

3. There are a lot of people in this country with a vested interest in destroying the Church. Personally, I consider most of these people just as evil as the sex offenders and pedophiles because they are willing to destroy an institution that does a tremendous amount of good because they disagree with a handful of the church's beliefs. It's not just about rooting out the bad priests or pointing out the law enforcement problem for them. They want to destroy the church to advance their own agenda.

IMHO, until the church corrects its serious recruitment issue and is willing to simply cope with the potential media controversy and firestorm from telling the truth, it will be difficult to eliminate the problem. Between now and then, the church needs to identify problem priests and deal with local law enforcement when appropriate.

For the record, I was raised Catholic but I'm not a particularly religious person.

Here's some balanced reading on the Boston issue.
