I blame 2006 on President Bush. If he had wielded his veto more than once is six years, like for instance every time he threatened to veto an excessive spending bill, voters would not now think (accurately) that Republicans are just as wasteful as democrats.

I agree, Bush has put Republicans in a very difficult hole to dig themselves out of. To be honest, from the actions Bush has or hasn't taken since being in office it's rather hard to describe him as a republican at all......

Bush aside, our political system needs to be reformed big time. Selling votes is the norm. At this point it's hard to tell which party is more incompetent and corrupt. What ever happened to the politician that once attaining office would vote according to what was best for the American people instead of a small group of lobbyists. Some even used to have the courage to speak the truth in the face of hypocrisy......man where are those guys?....
