Actually, credit for that "aca nada" bit should go to Wayne and Schuster, imho ;-) .......though it does remind you of Voltaire's "Quelques arpents de neige", eh
It's good background, though, for the most part, on the start-up of the whole scam. One thing I didn't know was that Bre-X had a website going as early as May 1993, and that there was a first-person narrative interspersed with the press releases, analyst's reports, etc;
"Internet fans were told by Bre-X's anonymous Web site narrator the significance of the September 8 boast: "This is probably the first time that independent information about the company is available. The stock will not trade below $0.50 again, but it will remain below $2 for almost another year." (The fact is the stock started the year at 12.6 cents and ended up at 28.5 cents.)
Ms. Francis is clearly not a threader, here is her comment on this thread;
"What was most innovative about Walsh's Bre-X promotion was its use of the Internet, where users would soon be writing thousands of messages to one another on what are called "chat lines"......Users register their real identities with the chat line's owners, then use fake names. The biggest Bre-X gossips were "Goldman (sic)," "Bigdude (sic)", "MikeSloan (sic)", "Ole49er (sic)" and "Dick Nada".
Well, Dick Nada, you should feel flattered, you're the only one whose name she spelled right, I guess she just had nada on her mind <g>, or maybe dick?. [bev, you may not know this, but the first four are spelled GOLDMAN, bigdude, mikesloan, and ole 49r.] Then there's this;
"The principal source of Bre-X gossip and information was a chat line called "Techstocks" run by two Californians."
.....she doesn't even know it's called Silicon Investor. She should have asked Adrian to write this part, or at least to proofread it.
Then there's some incorrect numbers and bad spelling (rumors for rumours), there wasn't much time for proofreading, I guess. There was clearly a lot of research done, though, and one hopes that the basic facts are correct and documentable. By page 100 or so it is obvious that Ms. Francis tends to view Walsh as a crook, as opposed to a moron, though a crook with a moron presence.
That's as far as I got so far, I find it quite easy to put down, the whole story is quite boring when you already know the ending <g>.
...... Buen d¡a y Salud! ......... marcos
PS..... I lost more on WIM, but then you know that story..... ;-) |
