Im not catholic but I disagree with these monetary settlements that are being made. I m not clear what right a non-profit charitable organization has to provide monies to settle criminal activities by their employees. If I were a contributor to these organizaton I would be pretty angry about this. If their employees engaged in criminal conduct then they should pay the price like any other wrong-doer. It seems particularly strange to me that people you would expect to be highly capable of making correct moral decisions failed so miserably in this regard but why penalize the local communities who innocently support all the worthwhile endeavours?
